Soccer clinic with APS

24th May 2010- On a cloudy monday afternoon, SWAV coaches made their way down to Assumption Pathway School to hold a 3-hr soccer clinic for a group of 15 boys. Spearheading the coaches was one of our academy directors, Fong Xiong Kun. It was a wonderful experience for the boys, who not only enjoyed themselves, but also learnt much from about the values the academy brought forward.

The session kicked off with some simple yet fun soccer drills to build camaraderie between the boys and coaches. The game "Han-tum Bola" really got the boys going. A series of games followed as the boys learnt some of the more technical aspects of football. The 2-sided game was obviously the highlight of the day, with the boys showing eagerness to showcase their new-found skills to their peers. The teacher-in-charge, Mr Khusni, also joined in the fun. The coaches were impressed with the boys' enthusiasm and skill levels.

As usual, the session is not just purely about soccer. Coach Fong always emphasised the purpose of his trainings to the boys. One particular value highlighted was the ability to look at things positively. Fong, in his usual quick-witted manner, explained in one of his drills, "It's ok to make mistakes. Everyone makes mistakes in football, as well as life in general. What's important is to learn from them and look forward."

I'm sure the boys at APS thoroughly enjoyed the session and learnt valuable lessons from the programme. We look forward to another collaboration with APS in future!
