Fabian Tan- Director of Academy

Fabian made history in 2006 by being the first and only NUS undergraduate to play in the S-league, representing the Singapore Under-23 team (Young Lions Football Club). Handpicked by former assistant national coach Fandi Ahmad to represent the national under-21 squad in the Sawarak Invitational International Tournament after winning the NFL and FA cup double with SAFSA, Fabian rose through the ranks and was promoted to the under-23 squad within a year. Having gone under the tutelage of footballing legends like Fandi Ahmad, V- Sundramoorthy and Terry Pathmanathan, Fabian learnt valuable coaching methods during his 2-year stint in the national training set-up. A transfer to Geylang United S-league squad in 2008 saw Fabian link up with 2 other Singapore footballing heros, namely ex-national captain Lim Tong Hai and former Malaysia Cup left winger D.Tokijan. Spending a total of 3 seasons in top flight S-league, Fabian has decided to take a break to focus on setting up this academy to pass on his experiences and inspire others who share the same passion for the game.

Aside from his outstanding achievements on the field, Fabian is equally astute in his academic pursuits. In 2006, he was awarded the prestigious National University of Singapore (NUS) Undergraduate Scholarship for being able to juggle his hectic professional soccer commitments with the equally demanding university educational requirements. His leadership qualities and humility made him a role model in his college and university teams. He was also active in helping to conduct soccer clinics for primary schools and charity orgnisations for the past 3 years.

Behind all his successes lay a series of failures which made Fabian a person whom many look up to. Most notably, he suffered a career-threatening knee injury in 2007, which sidelined him for more than 6 months. With discipline, determination and undying desire to compete in the top flight again, Fabian worked hard to get back to competitive football again. In fact, the failures are the ones that made him a stronger person, and the perfect example to inspire others to overcome the odds to achieve great things.

Vincent Wong- Academy Development Director

Despite only starting competitive soccer while he was 16 in 2002, Vincent was selected to represent Singapore in the Asian Schools Tournament held in China the following year. He trained under Danish coach Kim Poulsen and together with the Singapore U-18 team which comprised current national players such as Khairul Amri, Isa Halim and Shaiful Esah. Subsequently, he received a call-up by to the U-18 team in 2004 which he decided to give a miss so as to concentrate on his upcoming A'levels. The next few years of his soccer career was spent with SAFSA, Geylang United and NUS where he picked up valuable skills and knowledge of the game while training under the various reknowned coaches. He eventually decided to give up his dream of pursuing professional football and move to coaching due to an increasing list of recurring injuries.

Vincent's success in soccer was a result of pure hard work, discipline and a lot of observation and analysis. Having studied at top schools and interacted with some of the top minds in the country, Vincent understood that pure hard work alone would not be enough for him achieve his goal. There was a need to analyse his training methods, his game, determine his strengths and weaknesses and observe good players so that he can better his game. Through the past few years, Vincent picked up valuable skills not only from a player's perspective but also from a coach's point of view. He now wishes to pass on these knowledge and skills to children and youths not only to train them to be good soccer players but also to inculcate the kind of values that would make them useful citizens to Singapore.

Fong Xiongkun - Events and Marketing Director

Fong Xiongkun has played active competitive football since his Junior College years. He was a part of the only (so-far) VJC double Gold Medallist football team in 2001 and 2002. Upon entering university, he played in the varsity team for all four of his undergraduate years, with NUS reaching four consecutive semi-final berths and culminating in a Gold Medal in 2009. In those years, he also continued playing football outside of school. He was registered as a prime league player with Paya Lebar Punggol in 2005, a prime league player with Tampines Rovers in 2006, and played in the National Football League 2 with Jollilads Arsenal in the 2007 and 2008 seasons. In 2006, he was also selected to represent Singapore in the ASEAN University Games held in Vietnam. Since graduating in May 2009, he trained regularly with the Woodlands S-league football team and is currently hoping to secure a professional footballing contract with an S-league club.

Xiongkun's passion for football has been alluded to insanity on a few occasions. His belief in the beauty of the game has yet to be tarnished by the ugliness of today's standards. He is currently also the secretary of Maju United Football Club where he works hard to inspire young boys and girls in the club to achieve their dreams, believe in their potential, and play football the way it is meant to be played.
